I must admit, it is quite hard to live in a place, even temporarily, where when entering the month of March ( my favorite month) the temp. outside is roughly 60 degrees colder that what your normally used to at this time of year. Ive been receiving texts with pictures of daffodils springing forth in great abundance all over the Willamette valley and to be honest.. it makes me so sad! My favorite time of year is here, where my all time favorite flower blooms and brings bright colors and amazing smells to the outside and im missing it:(
Last week it creeped up into the 40s and I was loving it! there was ONE day that I drove down Grand on my way back from clinical with my windows down letting the warm 40 degree air blow through my car. Now I know what your thinking.. "shes crazy..40 degrees is not warm" But let me tell you, it is!! Compared to -10 it is! This morning after arriving to clinical I was filling out paper work and the break room TV was on with the weather forecast playing and my heart about sank to my knees at it was predicted a high of 0 for Sunday. 0 as a high? Its seriously something to cry over. Sometimes I wonder if spring will ever come to Iowa. At this rate ...I honestly don't think it ever will! Time cant go fast enough to May 5th when I get to pack my car up and drive back HOME to a real spring, a humidless Summer, a warm fall, and a negative degree less winter:) You wont hear me ever complain about the rain because, shoot Id take rain any day over snow! I used to LOVE snow.. and don't get me wrong I still do, but when you've had it for nearly 5 months.. its really hard to enjoy it! Im not bashing, im merely stating the facts, I was not born to live here forever. Im a west coast girl through and through and this experience has confirmed that!:)
So now onto my latest travels. Well last weekend I had the privilege of being a Metzger for the weekend. Whitney and her family (Bless their hearts) took me into their home for the ENTIRE weekend:) How did they do it!? no idea... they sure are troopers ;) Whit and I spent Friday night at her house in Sioux Falls, SD babysitting her little cousins. 4 super cute little kids, who were so well behaves, and a blast to hang out with!
Saturday we went to Rock Valley and spent the entire morning and part of the afternoon hitting up the 2nd hand shops there. Let me tell you I was in mini heaven! Honestly I find shopping at second hand stores much more fun than shopping brand new. Its the thrill of the find and the fun of it being new to me and in great condition! An even bigger score is when you find something with the tags still on!:):):)
That evening Amy Knobloch had the sisters over for secret pal for a world relief activity (we tied fleece blankets) and then had the entire YG for supper and a singing. It was a very enjoyable evening! ...Little did I know what was about to happen...
So after the singing as we were all sitting around the living room, chairs pulled up in all different directions chatting away, Whit came up and asked me if I was rdy to leave. It was only 9:30 but shoot it wasn't a bad time to leave so I said my farewells and we left the knoblochs and were headed to ...Lannas house? to get a shirt I was told. Not thinking much about it I hoped in the car and we went on our way. No joke about 5 minutes before we got to her place I exclaimed to Whit how "Lanna was sure looking thin, I wonder whats up her sleeve! It wont be long , mark my word".. well I was in for a big surprise because we got to Lannas house, headed downstairs to "get the shirt" and after walking into her room, she spins around and tells us that shes engaged! (did I not call this!?!?) Needless to say I was still surprised, and absolutely elated!! God worked in both Her and Drews lives and brought them together and im so incredibly happy for them!:) Its awesome to see such joy and peace on a dear friends face!!:) We serve and amazing God:)
Sunday was a good day full of wonderful teachings and announcements:) afterwards I was invited back to the Metzgers house for supper. Seriously I have been so blessed! People here are so welcoming and are so giving, an have the biggest hearts! I have never felt awkward or out casted. They have opened their hearts and homes to me so willingly and I can only pray that God will richly bless them for all that they have done for me.
The rest of my week has been slow, but good. Its been full of learning and leaning on the Lord. You know when your all "alone" in a place not familiar to you, you are held accountable for all that you do. Its sure not easy but I am thankful for the helping and loving hand of the Lord who gets me through the rough, the tough and the what seems impossible. Thankfully I can lean on his word and be calmed knowing that "with God ALL things are possible".
Have a wonderful weekend! Lord willing I will be spending it in Sabetha and Bern, Kansas:)
