I thought id never see it! Spring! Regardless of the fact that spring started weeks ago according to the calendar, Iowa has begun to pull through and blossom! The birds are chirping, the wind no longer hurts your face, the sunshine warms your skin and the temperature is something to smile at :) 70s. yes indeed we have hit 70! Of course by next week it could be snowing again but that is besides the point. Spring is here and I am delighted!:) Now for the flowers to start blooming...
Its so fun to see spring come about here in Spencer. Women pushing strollers with their friends, teenagers rollerblading down the side walk, and old men driving up and down the main street in their antique cars. And to make the spring ness even better... I was able to wear sandals for the first time in 7 months this week! AHH GLORIOUS! Although my skin is blindingly white, it was still marvelous to soak in the natural warmth. Anyways, I now believe in miracles. miracles that northern Iowa CAN pull through a nasty winter, and CAN warm up! ( I was beginning to think it would forever be Narnia here)
Let me bring us all up to date on the latest travels. They've consisted of... 2 weekend back to back in Mepo staying at Abis :) Really branching out I know, but when the worlds cutest little nephew dwells over in that area, its hard to not make the drive just to smother his chubby cheeks in kisses:) Needless to say, im a VERY proud auntie! Last weekend I was originally planning to go to Morris for baptisms but I found out that I needed to get new tires. Since Costco is a nation wide store Dad thought itd be best for me to get them from there so I could rotate them at home in Oregon for free. Ive got a smart papa:) So I ended up driving to Iowa city to meet Joel and Abi ( and Weston of course) to purchase 2 new tires.... which actually ended up being 4 new tires since all 4 were in terrible condition it turned out. What a lovely purchase to make when your already extremely broke. Yay for being in college! I didn't end up getting them put on until this past weekend because the ones I wanted were out of stock so I got to drive Abis old car back to spencer for the week :) Basically that weekend was full of sisterly bonding time, and a whole lot of nothing. but thats the best way to spend time with sisters:)
That week was just.. another week. school, clinicals, continuing the countdown, etc. until Thursday after clinical when I left early to beat the impending stow storm. I drove south for a solid hour if not more before heading east on a hwy that I kid you not is 196 miles long...and is for the most part completely straight. Its a solid 2.5 hour drive just on that one road, enough to make you just about go crazy. Oh how I long for curves and hills! anyways The closer I got to mepo the foggier it got. If it weren't for my trusty GPS idk if I would have found the turn off. No joke it was a thick white wall. but in a happy ending, I made it and again perched at Joel and Abis house :) Im beginning to like this idea of having 3 homes (one in Oregon, One in Mepo, and one in Eureka at Ems :) ) Friday night Abi and Joel had potluck at Troy and Joni Massners where Troy served us all Blue Gill from their pond! Cant recall ever eating the blue gill my brothers ever caught in our ponds, but ill eat them now after having Troys, it was super good!
Erika and I spent Saturday morning and afternoon browsing a 2nd hand shop in Burlington and getting my new tires on! What a fun outing! haha more like extremely practical. A long day of being out and about called for an afternoon nap followed by a 4 wheeler ride to get us ready for yg. It was the Oakville/Mepo Invite-a-friend wknd. Saturday was a supper and singing. Coolest part of the night id have to say was the cold stone they made us for dessert. Hit the spot. The rest of the weekend was a typical yg weekend, and filled with lots of good conversation, food, laughter, and memories made:) It was really special to spend time with Tiera Weigand in her new converted state! Its such a blessing to see the change that God performs in someones heart:) Very special!
And now here I am half way through another week with 3 weeks till I move out and 3 1/2 weeks till I hot the road heading WEST! :D
Highlight of my week thus far : Today I scrubbed a C section and ended the surgery standing in a massive puddle of water and blood. I feel like I have now earned my merit as a true surgical technologist. There is no place for girlyness in this job thats for sure!
Have a great week!
