5 weeks down... 11 and 6 days more to go...
Its crazy how time can go by so fast and yet so slow. There are great days when I feel like ive been here forever and then there are those days when i feel like ive barely gotten started. I keep reminding myself to think with the cup half full! its the only way that I can stay sane! haha
Last thursday my surgical tech program celebrated surgical technology week by hosting an open house for our families. Sadly i (of course) had no family to come partake in this event but none the less it was fun:) We set up little booths that contained "games" dealing with different duties of a tech. Some of which included dressing up in the OR attire, throwing instruments the sterile way onto a bulls eye, and fishing for skittles in a basketball with laparoscopic tools. Mixed in the games were buckets of candy (duhh!) and food! We had the coolest cake ordered to help us celebrate, designed to look like the operation game:) With the small group of students that we have, i wouldn't say that it was a packed event but it still was a pretty good show and people seemed to be enjoying themselves. We're all about raising awareness about what a surgical tech does and who they are in an OR room so any opportunity that we get to interact and share with the community or our families about it, we take it!

Christa and I left the open house after about an hr and headed up to Lester with Christas Mom Melissa. Erika came that night pretty late so we stayed at Tristan and Chalseas as they are only about 35 min. from the Sioux Falls airport. Friday morning I drove to Sioux Falls S.D. to pick up Nicky Barber at her place and we headed up to Kendra Schmidgalls house in Morris Minnesota! The 3 hr drive went fairly fast since we are both chatter boxes and we had only met the wknd before so we had A LOT to talk about! When we got to Kendras, out the door popped Kendra and Chelsea Bahler from Rockville, Conneticut who i had never met so it added to the excitedment:) Kendra the planner had a fun afternoon waiting for us. She had told us earlier in the week that she had a 4 seater bike rented for that afternoon. A 4 seater bike!? I had no idea what to expect in fact i was imagining a 2 seater bike but longer and with 4 seats! haha but the cool little contraption that we got looked alot like a golf cart except with 4 sets of petals. We started biking through morris and the college campus there in town...and then out onto some country roads....through a park...up some HILLS!! ...around the town and 2 hours later we had biked 6 miles! You can only imagine how bad i aches that next day haha I was ( and still am) completely out of shape, it was bad. Friday night there was an elderly visiting singing at the sky view apartments that we went to. Cutest retirement village I have ever seen! When you get inside there are a bunch of house fronts both upstairs and downstairs that are the entrances to all of the elderlys apartments! mixed in were cute little coy ponds, and tons of fake trees. It was such an adorable little place to live as it is always summer time in there :) While there I got the opportunity to visit with some of the old folks and what an awesome time that was! I met a Lady names Dorthy who actually ended up being my Brother in law Joels great aunt, what a small world:).I also got to talk to an old man with the last name of Grimm, im spacing on his first name but he used to be a minister in Morris. He was absolutely adorable! Super soft spoken, had alot of connections to Oregon and relations to me and had the cutest smile. He was so so kind, i really enjoyed that visit.
After the elderly singing we met up with Lanna Meyer and headed back to Kendras for a fire and campfire churros. (delicious btw)
Saturday we woke up in descent time and got ready for a day on the lake! Nickey had wedding pictures to attend so she left us right before we headed out. Kendras parents are awesome people, so kind , talkative and welcoming! They were the boat drivers and the 4 of us girls (Kendra, Lanna, Chelsea, and I) piled in the front for an exciting ride:) And it was! besides being on a boat to go fishing or crabbing that was my first time just taking a boat out for a ride. It was a sunny day with pretty much no wind and about 55 to 60 degrees so we were all in sweatshirts with blankets in our laps:) The lake ended up not being just one lake but like 4 or 5 that were all attached so it was quite the adventure going full steam ahead on the open waters and then going through little tunnels that took us to the connecting lakes. All in all i had an absolute blast! :D
We got back in time to change our clothes and head off to church for Esther and Joes wedding singing. After the church singing there was a lunch call at Gary and Sandy Fehrs house. With no exaggeration there was at least 45 or so of us singles there. 45 single people aging from about 15- 30 (the majority of them were about 18-22) alll surrounding a piano singing hymns of praise to our Lord on a saturday night. It just really sank in that night as i was listening to everyone sing, just how special this body of believers really is. The normal 18-22 year olds of this world on a saturday night are out doing who knows what... and here we were fellowshipping and worshiping God. How cool is that!? Its just so awesome how Jesus has worked in all of our lives and how blessed we are to have a church family like this! I feel like ive said that a million times but it is so true!!
Saturday night a car full of girls joined us at Kendras house for the night. We had a total of 8 girls which made for lots of laughs and chatter:) Once we came home from the lunch call it was about 11:30 PM and our night had just started! With all of the energy built up inside us we set out down the road on a walk roughly around midnight. I really enjoyed it though, it was a full moon, a calm night and relatively warm. 2 miles later we got home and spent the remainder of our night around the kitchen table with a guitar and sang:) Chels did a phenomenal job with the guitar, i can only wish i knew how to play that well. maybe someday ill learn...
Sunday morning and 14 people in one kitchen sure made for a lively breakfast time!:D Kendras brother Drew had 2 brothers staying with him as well. My first time to Morris church and boy was it packed! Joe and Esther had a lot people there eager to witness their wedding vows, which made for a special weekend and a ton of new people to meet! Im seriously loving all of this because im getting the awesome opportunity to get to know so many sisters and so many other people! God has blessed us so richly.
In a whirl wind the day was over and Rebekah Jones and Kyla Knobloch rode back to Lester with me.
I cant even put in words just how much fun i had and what an amazing weekend i was blessed to experience with those of like mind and like faith.
